This toolkit was created to support volunteers who help adult English language learners through conversation clubs and informal activities. While volunteer-led efforts are valuable, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) found their quality varies and called for better resources.
Commissioned by MHCLG, Learning and Work Institute and Learning Unlimited developed this toolkit to improve the effectiveness of conversation clubs and enhance participants’ language skills and social connections.
The toolkit offers:
- Useful activity ideas and lists
- Speaking games and templates
- Record-keeping tools for conversation clubs
It can be used alongside other resources in the set, including topic-based conversation club materials, guidance for new volunteers, and introductory videos. Additional materials are also available for organizations and researchers.
